The main aim of our project is to replicate the ecological significance of dead trees within the local ecosystem through the utilization of advanced 3D printing technology. By fabricating an element composed of natural and locally sourced material, our objective is to emulates the complex geometrical patterns found in dead trees. This printed element aims to provide comparable environmental benefits to those offered by dead trees, catering to a diverse range of organisms including insects, fungi, vegetation, and other forms of wildlife.
Our project encompasses a series of these printed elements, each varying diverse scales, collectively forming a comprehensive system. Strategically situated within the ecologic garden, these elements serve as prominent focal points, attracting and sustaining numerous species while occasionally benefiting human visitors as well.
The application of 3D printing technology, complemented by computational design algorithms inspired by mathematical formulations derived from natural systems, enables us to reproduce the intricate geometric complexities inherent to dead trees. By doing so, our project endeavors to investigate and redefine the interrelationships among humans, nature, and machines, thus offering novel perspectives on these multifaceted relationships.
